SASASA began in 1997.                      The years of cooperation between Rae Bowhay and Martin Trudel, combined with a talented array of collaborators, has lead to the development of a remarkable and surprising repertoire. From a merrily subversive jaunt through aesthetics and the quotidian to the presentation of living and interactive works, SASASA has succeeded in a double tour de force. They have brought a contemporary aesthetic to the world of bars and cabarets, initiating new audiences to modern performing arts, and furthermore, the company has drawn on different folk aesthetics and shared the unsuspected wealth of these traditional forms in theaters usually reserved for contemporary performance.SASASA has presented works in Montreal (Tangente, Studio 303, Théatre du Rideau Vert, Lion D'or), Toronto (TIDF Great Event Scale), Kolkata, India (INTERFACE) and Shenzhen, People's Republic of China (May 1st celebrations).                                      They have received support on several occasions from the Canada Council for the Arts, and in 2005 Rae Bowhay received the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award for outstanding achievement in dance.
